Our Story

A Paducah landmark, reborn.

Standing at 219 Broadway since before 1885, the Clark Building is one of downtown Paducah's earliest structures and a listed site on the National Register of Historic Places. Its first decades were filled with thriving shops — and its walls have weathered a great deal since.

During the catastrophic 1937 Ohio River flood, more than nine feet of water rose here, nearly reaching the second floor. Afterward the building served as a USO headquarters, hosting dances and gatherings for service members through the war years. The Schroeder publishing family made it a Paducah institution in the 1950s, and in 1993 Hooper's Outdoor Center opened on the ground floor — where it still trades today.

In its latest chapter, BHIK Investments reimagined the landmark as eight boutique apartments, with restoration by Ray Black & Son, architecture by i5Design, and interiors by Charleton & Park — using local materials and craftspeople wherever possible.

The restoration kept the building's soul intact. Its grand staircase was returned to pre-flood glory behind a glass viewing wall, with a custom "W" emblem — milled by a local downtown shop — set into the stone. Original 12-foot ceilings run across all three floors above preserved and refinished wood floors, the 19th-century windows keep their rope-and-pulley sashes, and Heaven Hill whiskey barrels now stand where fire buckets once did on the landings. Front apartments look out over Broadway; those at the back take in the Ohio River.

02

Rent & Parking

Rent is due on or before the first of each month. Rates vary by apartment — email us for pricing. One assigned spot per apartment in the secured lot behind the building.

03

Access & Keys

The primary entrance is the back-alley door, opened with a rotating code sent to you by email. Two keys are provided per apartment; lost or replacement keys are $25 each.

04

Getting Around

The second and third floors are reachable by elevator, the restored grand staircase, or either fire-escape stair. Evacuation maps and extinguishers are on every floor.

Electric and water are included; there is no gas service. Every apartment has its own Wi-Fi and is prewired for coax and ethernet — no new lines through walls or ceilings.

08

Trash & Mail

Residents drop their own trash in the bins in the back alley. Each apartment has an assigned lobby PO box with a parcel locker; replacement mailbox keys are $25.

09

Apartment Care

Furnishings, window treatments, fixtures, and bulbs are the resident's to maintain. No nails or wall intrusions, no window banners, and never hang from or tamper with sprinkler heads.

10

Respect & Safety

Security cameras cover the common areas, and the building follows the city's noise ordinance. Children under 12 should be supervised in common areas and on the elevator.

11

Insurance & Storage

Each resident carries their own renter's insurance. Limited storage is available for bicycles and other large items, and building-wide pest control is provided.
